Arizona goes to McCain; Dems race close

PHOENIX - Native son John McCain won the Republican primary in Arizona Tuesday while Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton remained in a close race on the Democratic side.
The Arizona Republic said that Clinton held the lead over Obama, but the race was too close to call.
McCain had no major problems topping Mitt Romney and winning in the state that he has represented in the U.S. Senate since 1986.
The Republican primary in Arizona is a winner-take-all contest while the Democrats award their delegates based on a proportional formula.
The Republic reported a spate of glitches and confusion at polling places in and around Phoenix.
The issues included complaints about names missing from voter rolls and several cases in which puzzled voters said poll workers told them they were on record as having requested an early mail-in ballot. The voters were allowed to fill out a provisional ballot; however it will not be counted until officials confirm that they had not voted earlier.
Nevertheless, turnout was heavy, the newspaper said
