MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - An overturned truck loaded with compressed hydrogen gas kept part of Route 88 in Middlebury, Conn., closed for much of Tuesday while the cargo was offloaded.

Firefighters told WFSB-TV in Hartford that the vehicle would be left where it was until the highly flammable cargo could be transfered to another tanker truck.

WFSB said traffic on the highway, a major route between Massachusetts and New York, was a mess at midday and motorists were advised to find alternate routes around the accident site.

The truck overturned early Tuesday morning. There was no fire and the driver suffered only minor injures, but more than 60 people were evacuated from nearby homes as a precaution.
