BALTIMORE -- An FBI employee has been indicted on charges of accepting an illegal gratuity, the U.S. Justice Department said Tuesday.
Curtis Jones of Annapolis, Maryland, is accused of accepting an all-expenses-paid Caribbean cruise for him and his family, after helping a shredding machine company win a $2 million government contract.
The U.S. Justice Department alleges Jones, an FBI physical security specialist, helped negotiate the purchase of upgraded shredders for FBI employees to use when destroying classified documents, according to the single count indictment filed in Baltimore Tuesday.
After the deal went through, Jones allegedly accepted an offer to take his family on an all-expenses-paid cruise with company executives over the 2004 New Year's holiday.
The Justice Department says the cruise Jones and his family took over the 2004 New Year's holiday was worth $7,500.
If convicted, Jones faces two years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
