WEST LINN, Ore. -- Nearly a dozen officers and a police dog were unable to track down a man who led police on a car chase before losing control of his vehicle which then jumped a curb and plunged down an embankment. The suspect, who has an outstanding arrest warrant for auto theft and prior arrests for weapons charges and eluding police, fled on foot and evaded capture, police reported.
West Linn Police Officers Jason Dolan and Patrick McConnel said they were on routine patrol about 5 p.m., Tuesday when they spotted an older Ford Mustang. When they ran the plates, they found the car didn’t have valid insurance.

The officers said the driver turned, without signaling, onto Interstate 205 and sped onto the freeway, ignoring the patrol vehicle’s lights.
The driver, later identified as Sean Ivan Detrick, 36, of southeast Portland, took the Highway 43 West Linn exit and failed to negotiate a right turn at the bottom of the ramp. Dolan and McConnel said the car drifted across the road, jumped the curb, then plunged down the embankment.
Detrick and two passengers fled on foot, and other officers from West Linn, Lake Oswego and Oregon City Police Departments, in addition to Oregon State Police troopers and a Clackamas County Sheriff’s canine all responded to assist.
The two passengers were detained for a short time then released.
Detrick, however, who reportedly has an outstanding warrant for car theft and prior arrests for weapons charges and eluding police, escaped capture.
