TAMPA, Fla. - A detention deputy in Hillsborough County, Fla., faces an abuse charge after allegedly dumping a quadriplegic man from his wheelchair.
Charlette Marshall-Jones, 44, was released on $3,500 bail following her arrest.
A Jan. 29 video depicted the deputy raising the back of a wheelchair and dumping Brian Sterner, 32, of Riverview onto the floor, the Tampa (Fla.) Tribune reported.
Sterner, who had been taken to the jail on a warrant stemming from a traffic violation, remained on the floor as Marshall-Jones searched him, said Hillsborough sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.
The quadriplegic was arrested at his home and taken to the jail on a charge of fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer. He claims Marshall-Jones tried to force him to stand up, sending him sprawling.
Two of Marshall-Jones's supervisors have been suspended and one was put on unpaid leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
