A routine traffic stop by a Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputy on a vehicle pulling a utility trailer without taillights turned out to be anything but routine – the driver was one of the FBI’s “most wanted” fugitives who fathered a child when he allegedly sexually assaulted a family member in Missouri.

According to Detective Jim Strovink, Deputy Kevin Bigler pulled over the Ford pickup on SE McLoughlin Boulevard in the Oak Grove area of Milwaukie, Oregon about 9 p.m. last Friday.

The driver, 43-year old Thomas Andrew McLaughlin, denied he was a Federal fugitive but “was unsuccessful in his attempt to deceive the veteran Deputy Sheriff,” Strovink said. McLaughlin provided an address of a residence on S. Anchor Way in Oregon City.

The arrest warrant for Mclaughlin was issued in December 2005, the detective reported. The suspect was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail pending likely extradition to Missouri.
