BOULDER, Colo. - A columnist who wrote an allegedly anti-Asian piece has been suspended from the University of Colorado student newspaper.

In a statement on its Web site, the Campus Press said the paper is reorganizing its opinion page, the Boulder Daily Camera said. It said Max Karson is being suspended pending the outcome of that change.

Karson was the author of a column published last week headlined "If it's war the Asians want ... It's war they'll get."

More than 100 students protested the column Wednesday and then attended a meeting mediated by students trained by the U.S. Justice Department.

"The mistake that I made when I published the article was thinking that my reactions spoke for everyone," Editor in Chief Cassie Hewlings said at the meeting. "I am so incredibly sorry. I didn't want to hurt anyone. I've learned more this past week than I have my whole 22 years of life."
