MANILA, Philippines - Philippine government agents have arrested three suspected al-Qaida operatives who were allegedly planning to bomb five embassies and a museum, a report said.
An initial investigation said the plot involved bombing the U.S. embassy and four others, including those of Britain, Israel and Australia, all in Manila, ABS-CBN News reported Thursday. The plot also included the Ayala Museum in Makati City. Security has been tightened at all of the facilities, police said.
Two of the suspects -- a Jordanian named Khalil Hassan al-Ali and another man from the Middle East -- are members of an al-Qaida sleeper cell in the country, ABS-CBN News said.
The arrests took place after investigators uncovered a money trail from abroad to fund bomb attacks in Mindanao, the report said.
