Sudan-Chad peace accord may be signed soon

DAKAR, Senegal -- Leaders from Sudan and Chad were expected to sign a peace agreement during the Organization of Islamic Conference summit in Senegal.

The two-day meeting began Thursday.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and Foreign Minister Smana al-Wassila were vague on whether they would sign the agreement, saying it made sense to "respect the Tripoli agreement" the two countries reached two months ago, reported Panapress, the African news agency.

Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade said last week the neighboring countries would sign an agreement in Dakar to end their dispute. Each accuses the other of arming rebels to destabilize their respective regimes.
