Reward offered in attempted vehicle arson

SISTERS, Ore. -- A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and charges filed against the person or persons responsible for the attempted arson of a vehicle parked near an apartment complex in Sisters, Oregon, early Wednesday morning.
 
Deschutes County Sheriff's Lt. Kevin Dizney said the owner of the vehicle parked his black Nissan X-Terra sports utility vehicle (SUV) in a lot nearby the Adams Roost Apartments at 173 East Adams Street, and reported the failed arson attempt at 4:30 a.m., March 12.
 
According to the lieutenant, someone saturated a length of rope in an unknown accelerant and inserted one end into the SUV’s gas tank, then lit the other end on fire. Fortunately, the rope failed to burn completely into the gas tank, and the fire burned out before more than minor damage could occur.
 
Sheriff’s deputies and detectives are actively investigating the incident, and ask anyone with information to call the Detective Division at 541.617.3393 or 1-800-3-DETECT. All callers may remain anonymous, Dizney added.
