AMES, Iowa - Police said they arrested a 20-year-old Illinois man allegedly seen in an Iowa State University dormitory with a gun early Sunday.

ISU police said Jawon R. Jackson of Aurora Ill., who is not a student at the Iowa school, faces felony charges for allegedly pointing a gun at someone in the dormitory, The Des Moines Register reported.

The incident on the sixth floor of Willow Hall occurred shortly before 1 a.m., the newspaper reported. A campus-wide alert was issued and Jackson was found in the residence hall about 15 minutes later. He was unarmed at the time of his arrest and a search was under way for what witnesses described as a black semi-automatic handgun, the Register reported.

"One witness indicated it was pointed at an individual, another observed it by his side," Campus Public Safety Director Jerry Stewart said.

Jackson was being held in the Story County Jail in Nevada in lieu of $12,000 bond.
