BURNABY, British Columbia -- Police in Burnaby, British Columbia, are asking for the public's help in identifying a thief who broke into a 91-year-old man's house three times last week.

The first robbery was last Monday when a man in his mid-50s with a medium build forced his way into the home of a man identified only as Tom, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The man told police he was smacked a few times before he turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and the thief fled.

The same man broke in again on Saturday and Sunday, Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokeswoman Cpl. Alexandra Mulvihill said.

She said suggestions Tom move for his own safety weren't met well.

"This man has lived in that home for a very long time,'' Mulvihill told the broadcaster. "This is his home and it doesn't feel right that he has to be forced out of it because somebody continues to break into it and ultimately he'd like to stay there."
