REDMOND, Ore. – A 14-year-old boy was arrested for driving drunk and other crimes early Thursday morning after he and his 12-year-old sister allegedly stole his mother’s vehicle, led police on a car chase, and crashed into another car in southwest Redmond, Oregon, before being apprehended.
Shortly after 2 a.m., March 27, Redmond police officers were responding to a Circle-K convenience store after they received a report of a possible drunk driver, and as they were enroute another tip was called in about the same vehicle, but in a different location, Captain Dave Tarbet reported.
Unable to locate the suspect vehicle in either area, officers later found the car parked, with two people inside, in the Rite Aid parking lot. As officers approached, the vehicle sped away westbound, the captain said.
After a short pursuit, the vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle near SW 21st Street and SW Quartz Avenue. After being checked by paramedics, both occupants -- the 14-year-old from Tacoma, Washington, and his 12-year-old sister from Redmond -- were taken into custody, Tarbet wrote in a news release.
The boy was lodged in the Deschutes County Juvenile Facility and faces charges including driving under the influence of intoxicants, possession of marijuana, eluding police, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, assault and criminal mischief.
His sister was released to her mother, Captain Tarbet said, and charges against her may be pending.
