The Oregon Advocacy Center (OAC) filed a complaint against the City of Bend and the Bend Area Transit in the United States District Court Thursday, alleging that the City’s fixed route bus stops are not accessible.

OAC is an independent non-profit organization that provides legal advocacy services for people with physical or mental disabilities in Oregon.

According to a news release issued December 21, the City says it is reviewing the complaint and will respond appropriately to the lawsuit. In the meantime, the City reaffirms that it believes its transit service meets the accessibility requirements, and says that they are committed to working with the public to create the most comprehensive transportation system for the citizens of Bend.

In addition to responding to the suit in court, the City says it will continue to have dialogue with the accessibility community in an attempt to resolve their concerns.
