Clinton not paying her bills

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. political campaign of Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., isn't paying some of its bills in order to spend money on advertisements, The Politico said Monday.

Several media planning companies is spreading the word that the Clinton campaign owes them money. One company told The Politico that Clinton's campaign stopped taking phone calls or responding to e-mail regarding the overdue payments.

Jay Carson, a spokesman for the Clinton camp, responded to earlier assertions by Politico saying, "The campaign pays its bills regularly and in the normal course of business and pays all of its bills."

But the alleged problem in paying bills is just a broader sign of the apparent financial woes facing Clinton. Her campaign, if not accounting for the $5 million she loaned her campaign, would be $3 million in debt if it paid all its bills in February, The Politico's report said.

An anonymous employee with an Ohio event production company said the Clinton campaign owes it for a variety of things, from $319,000 for catering, to $11,000 for photography.

"Senator Clinton talks about helping working families, people in unions and small businesses. But when it comes down to actually doing something that shows that she can back up her words with action, she fails," the employee told The Politico.
