MERRITT, British Columbia -- A homicide investigation was under way Monday into the slayings of three young children in their mobile home in British Columbia, Canadian police said.
A girl and two boys who were in kindergarten and grades 2 and 4 were found by their mother after she returned from a brief walk to a convenience store Sunday around 2 p.m., Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Merritt said.
Sunday night, RCMP Cpl. Tracy Dunsmore said no one was in custody, but said the deaths are not the result of a random act in the city northeast of Vancouver, the Vancouver Sun reported.
Neighbors told reporters the family had moved to the area recently and the mother kept to herself while the children were friendly.
Classes at their school were canceled Monday and grief counselors were being arranged for the rest of the week, the report said.
Police withheld details of how the children died or who they considered as suspects, the Sun said.
