LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A Colorado man suffered severe burns when his Cessna 210 Centurion crashed and caught fire while attempting to land at Bowman Field in Louisville, Ky.
Neighbors used garden hoses to battle the fire after the aircraft skidded into the yard of a house north of Taylorsville Road Sunday, The Courier-Journal reported.
Resident Mike Oost told the newspaper when he got to the plane the pilot "was laying crossways on the seat and his shirt had burned off."
"I was afraid to spray any cold water on him, because it might've sent him into shock," Oost said.
The pilot, whose name was not released, was taken to University Hospital where he was reported in stable condition Sunday night.
A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said the plane had taken off Sunday morning from Rifle in Western Colorado.
An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the crash.
