Albany Police officers responded to the 700 block of SW College Park Drive just before 2:30 p.m., April 7, to a reported disturbance, and found James Culbertson, 47, being detained by the victim’s friend, who had come upon the scene with his wife during the assault.

Police said Culbertson was distraught over the recent breakup of a relationship with the victim. He was allegedly armed with a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun and a shotgun, and officers found several more weapons when they later executed a search warrant at his home.

Culbertson was taken into custody, transported to the police department and interviewed. He was then lodged in the Linn County Jail and was charged with attempted homicide, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and third-degree assault, a news release stated.
