Hemphill appointed as Municipal Court Judge

BEND, Ore. -- The Bend City Council has appointed Brian Hemphill as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Bend.  Hemphill replaces Lisa Bertalan who served as Municipal Court Judge for the past 14 years.  Bertalan was appointed a Pro-Tem Judge by Council.

Hemphill was recommended to Council for appointment by a search committee which included Judge Bertalan, Court Supervisor Mindy Demars and retired police lieutenant and current bailiff, Bob Wittwer.  Hemphill’s appointment is for two years, as allowed by the City of Bend Charter. 

Hemphill received his law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2001 and began working for Motschenbacher & Blattner LLP in Portland, Oregon. In 2002, he earned a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Program to study German Law in Germany.

Upon returning to the United States in 2003, Hemphill settled in Bend and worked for Albertazzi Law firm. He is currently a sole practitioner practicing a variety of disciplines including family law, adoption, bankruptcy, estate planning and probate, real estate and general civil litigation.
