LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – An incessantly barking dachshund named Annie refused to let an officer responding to a noise complaint leave until police found her owner who had fallen and hit her head.

According to a Lake Oswego Police Department (LOPD) news release, Sgt. John Brent was confronted in the middle of the residential street by the “very small but ferociously barking” dog, who wouldn’t let the officer's police car pass by about 1 a.m., May 20.

Sgt. Brent, head of the LOPD Canine Unit, got out of his patrol car and tried for some time, unsuccessfully, to capture the dog. Annie wouldn’t let the officer pass, or leave the area, the news release said.

Eventually the sergeant heard a faint call for help from Annie’s owner, Pamela Fischer, who has some unspecified physical limitations and was found in a nearby yard where she’d fallen and hit her head, police reported.

Medical responders were called and rendered aid to Fischer, who is reportedly “now fine”. Fischer is “quite proud of Annie”, police said.
