BROTHERS, Ore. – A man riding a mini bike was badly injured and flown by helicopter to the hospital after he was run over and trapped under the ATV his eight-year-old son was riding south of Brothers, Oregon on Sunday afternoon, deputies reported.
Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies, Bend Fire Paramedics, Air Life of Oregon and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel were dispatched to the accident scene on a dirt road about five miles south of Brothers on Bureau of Land Management property when a 911 call was received about 4:25 p.m., May 25, Corporal Wayne Morgan said in a news release.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Anthony Luelling, 36, was riding his son’s 1974 Honda 49cc mini bike while his son was operating the father’s 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500 ATV. “The son ran over Luelling,” Cpl. Morgan said, trapping him underneath the all terrain vehicle.
Passersby were able to extricate Luelling from under the ATV and cared for him until the Air Life helicopter arrived on scene about 5:15 p.m., the corporal stated. Luelling was flown to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with unknown injuries.
Deputies arrived about ten minutes later, Morgan wrote in a news release, and the investigation is ongoing.
