According to a news release issued by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, employees of Big Lots’ at 18565 SW Tualatin Valley Highway chased Daniel A. Hemmerling from the store. He was located by a sheriff’s K9 team in an office of the nearby Aloha Mall, where he hid after allegedly kicking in the door and propping a chair against it.

Witnesses said Hemmerling exposed himself and attempted to conceal himself with a small plastic shopping basket as he masturbated with his genitals outside of his pants, the news release stated.

A female employee told deputies she confronted Hemmerling and told him to put his genitals back in his pants, prompting the suspect to respond, “Oh, is that mine?” He allegedly continued to fondle himself until another employee approached him moments later and the suspect ran.

Hemmerling was taken into custody and lodged in the Washington County Jail. He is charged with public indecency, which, in this case, is a Class C felony due to a 1991 arrest and conviction for the same crime in Clark County, the release said.
