TEHRAN -- Iran has lashed out at Barack Obama, the apparent Democratic nominee for U.S. president, for pledging to eliminate the Tehran threat.
A spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry called the remarks "unacceptable" and biased, Fars News reported.

"It is undeniable that the nature of the Iranian nuclear program is peaceful," said Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini. "These comments are certainly one-sided and unreal, and are completely contrary to the nature of the Iranian peaceful nuclear program and thus unacceptable."

Obama vowed on Wednesday that he would work to eliminate the threat posed by Iran to world security.

"The danger from Iran is grave and real and my goal will be to eliminate this threat," he told the influential pro-Israel lobby, the American Israel Public Affairs Council. He said that he would do "everything" to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
