Stranded Mt. Bachelor hiker rescued

BEND, Ore. – A 24-year old Minneapolis man who became fatigued while hiking in snow-covered terrain from Devils Lake to Mt. Bachelor in Central Oregon was rescued and returned safely to his vehicle Sunday afternoon.

According to Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Biondi, deputies received a report of the stranded hiker, Michael Larusso, 24, of Minnesota, about 1 p.m., June 8.

Deputies and Search and Rescue (SAR) team members responded to the area near Sparks Lake. SAR traveled about four miles by snowmobile on Cascade Lakes Highway, located Larusso, and transported him back to his vehicle parked at Dutchman’s Flat Sno-Park.

Larusso was not injured and the rescue operation was completed in about 1 ½ hours, Sgt. Biondi wrote in a news release.
