BEND, Ore. – A 17-year-old Bend driver was arrested Sunday evening for allegedly driving drunk, reckless driving and eluding police after he crashed through a fence in northeast Bend, led officers on a short vehicle pursuit then fled on foot, authorities reported.
Bend Police were called to 2450 NE 27th Street about 6:40 p.m., August 24, after 911 callers reported that a vehicle had crashed through a fence near the St. Francis of Assisi School and subjects were running from the scene, Lt. Ken Mannix wrote in a news release.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Bend, failed to stop for police when they attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle as it was leaving the scene as officers arrived. The vehicle drove out of the school’s parking lot and drove a short distance to NE Faith Drive before stopping, Mannix said.
The suspect fled on foot, jumping over a fence into a nearby home’s backyard. “With assistance from a citizen, the suspect in this case was taken into custody,” the lieutenant said.
The teenager was charged with attempting to elude police by vehicle and by foot, driving under the influence of intoxicants, failure to perform the duties of a driver, reckless driving and second-degree criminal trespassing, the news release stated.
