Carrie Lynn Smith was traveling east in a 1993 Ford Tempo on I-84 near milepost 194 about 4:10 p.m. when the roll-over crash occurred, Trooper Daniel Routt said.

Smith’s vehicle left the freeway onto the north shoulder, crossed into gravel, over-corrected and rolled on its side as it began to come back onto the roadway. It crossed both eastbound lanes and hit a side slope before rolling several times, OSP reported.

Smith was pronounced deceased on scene, and was not “properly restrained”, Trooper Routt said.

OSP troopers from the Pendleton Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Hermiston Fire Department, Echo Rural Fire Department, Umatilla County Sheriff’s deputies, and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel assisted at the scene.
