GRESHAM, Ore. – A 35-year old Sherwood man was arrested today for the gunshot slayings of two people discovered in their Gresham home more than a week after they were murdered in August 2008.
Gresham Police Sgt. Michael LeDuc said James Tooley was taken into custody March 6 and lodged without bail at the Multnomah County Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of aggravated murder.
Tooley was a known associate of the victims, 26-year old Anthony Cooper and 22-year old Melinda Kotkins. Sgt. LeDuc said investigators believe it is this association that led to their deaths. Their bodies were discovered after a natural gas company employee noticed a strong odor coming from their residence. Cooper and Kotkins reportedly had prior drug arrests.
