PEARLAND, Texas - Law enforcement agencies in Pearland, Texas, Monday were tracking a man who opened fire on another person and then police near a school, officials said.

Pearland Police and Brazoria County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to an area near a grade school after receiving reports that the suspect tried to carjack a vehicle from someone living in the neighborhood, opened fire on the person, then turned on police, Houston television station KHOU reported.

No one was hurt in the exchange, police said.

Pearland school district officials had asked parents of elementary school students to drop their children at a nearby junior high school. The television station said officers escorted students from the junior high to the elementary school.
