REDMOND, Ore. -- Cornucopia Natural Foods of Redmond, Oregon is recalling bulk self-serve grind peanut butter, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  The product was manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of American because they have the potential to be contaminated with
 
Salmonella

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. 

The products were distributed in Central Oregon through their retail store located in Redmond, OR.

Bulk self-serve grind peanut butter, was available for customers to grind using an in-store grinder.  Customers could use their own container or 8 oz., 16 oz. and 32 oz. containers were provided.   The product is unlabeled and does not have UPC or lot codes.  The product was sold between January 1, 2007 and February 10, 2009.

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product/these products.  The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Cornucopia Natural Foods has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.

Consumers who have purchased Bulk self-serve grind peanut butter between January 1, 2007 and February 10th, 2009 from Cornucopia Natural Foods are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.   Customers with questions may contact Cornucopia Natural Foods at 541-548-5911 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
