Other Victims Not-Yet-Identified Possible, Police Say
McMINNVILLE, Ore. – A 50-year old McMinnville man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of his nine-year-old God-daughter after police seized video tapes, recording devices, computers, marijuana and drug-related items in a raid on the suspect's home.
McMinnville Police Sgt. Matt Scales said in connection with the investigation of reported sex abuse, detectives assisted by the Yamhill County Interagency Narcotics Team executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home at 564 Fenton Street.
According to a news release, Benjamin W. Sjobeck, 50, was taken into custody and lodged at the Yamhill County Correctional Facility in lieu of $250,000 bail. He was charged with first-degree sexual abuse and encouraging child sex abuse.
Kathirae H. Sjobeck, 56, was also arrested and taken to jail. She was charged with attempted tampering with physical evidence and cited for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana.
Police seized various items of evidence, including but not limited to video tapes, recording devices, computers, marijuana and smoking devices, Scales reported.
“Because of the ongoing abuse, investigators believe that there may be other victims not yet identified,” the sergeant said. Anyone with information about this case, or any other crimes that may be related to Sjobeck, is asked to contact Sgt. Scales at 503.434.2358.
