BEND, Ore. -- The Pacific Northwest’s leading independently-owned real estate brokerage, The Hasson Company Realtors, recently announced it will again sponsor the 33rd Annual U.S. Bank Pole Pedal Paddle (PPP) competition in Central Oregon on Sat., May 16, 2009.
Each year, the event draws thousands of participants, including some of the top athletes throughout the Northwest as well as several “weekend warriors” from across the nation.
Much like the Nike Hood to Coast Relay and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, this East-of-the-Cascades relay event is the ideal opportunity for companies across the state to compete as teams, boosting morale and camaraderie amongst coworkers. The race is also the perfect occasion for families to spend quality time together and enjoy a weekend getaway to the High Desert.
During the race, teams, pairs and individuals participate in six sequential legs, each defined by a particular athletic category: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, cycling, running, canoeing/kayaking and sprinting. Energizing the Central Oregon region for the weekend, the race itself consists of five divisions: Individual, Elite, Pairs, Teams and Special Teams -- each with several categories to accommodate different ages and skill levels.
The event begins for skiers and snowboarders at the top of Mt. Bachelor’s Pine Marten chair lift and ends in a one-third mile sprint to the finish line at the Les Schwab Amphitheater, where a all-day festival begins at 11 a.m. Open to the public, the fun-filled festival features food vendors, sponsors’ booths and a beer garden.
In addition to the three teams participating from The Hasson Company’s Bend branch, a fourth Hasson team from the Portland-area offices will join the event. Volunteers at The Hasson Company booth will hand out water and. At the kid’s PPP event on Sun., May 17, 2009, 20 Hasson agents will volunteer to set up obstacle courses and assist children throughout the day.
“The PPP delivers an unforgettable experience; it is the perfect blend of teamwork, competition and fitness,” says Mike Hasson, president and owner of The Hasson Company Realtors. “And the event helps the businesses of Central Oregon thrive.”
Money raised through the PPP event supports the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation (MBSEF), a nonprofit organization that provides youth programs dedicated to promote competitive Alpine racing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and cycling. Some of MBSEF’s students have even gone on to compete on an international level.
