SUNRIVER, Ore. – An 18-year-old driver was injured Sunday about noon when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel and his car left the highway, rolled, then crashed into a tree, deputies reported.

According to a news release prepared by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bryan Husband, deputies and Sunriver Police and Fire personnel responded to Highway 97 near milepost 152 about 11:55 a.m., March 29, to a reported single-vehicle rollover crash with unknown injuries.

Brent Hermanns of Bend was injured after he apparently fell asleep and lost control of his 1991 Nissan Sentra. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time his vehicle left the highway, rolled, and hit the tree, Husbands said.

Hermanns was transported to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend with reportedly non-life threatening injuries by a Sunriver Fire Department ambulance.

The car was totaled and towed from the scene by La Pine Towing, the sergeant said.
