CLEVELAND -- The brother of a Stamford, N.Y., woman who was mauled by a friend's chimpanzee says she is recovering from serious injuries suffered in the incident.
Charla Nash's brother, Stephen, said his 55-year-old sister has begun talking and moving at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio despite the injuries she suffered in the Feb. 16 attack, the New York Daily News said Wednesday.
"For a time we were very worried; now it's more hopeful and less worried," the brother said. "It's been getting better."
Nash was attacked by her friend Sandra Herold's 200-pound chimp, Travis, and the attack left her with devastating injuries to her face.
Travis had previously been a docile animal that had been used in commercials, the Daily News said. The chimp was shot by police officers after the mauling.
The Daily News said during her recovery Nash has been uttering the name of her daughter, Brianna.
