Redmond Police chase, crash leads to car theft arrest

REDMOND, Ore. --A Eugene man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he led police on a 70-mph pursuit before crashing the car he allegedly stole from his brother along with a gun and $1,000 cash.

According to Redmond Police Sgt. Brad McMurrian, officers, Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to 1950 SW 22nd Street about 1:50 a.m., April 1, to the reported theft of a car, firearm and cash.

Police determined the victim was Micah Britton, and the alleged suspect was identified as his brother, 33-year old Justin Teague Britton, a news release stated.

Police learned that the suspect may be on his way to his girlfriend’s home in the neighboring county south of Redmond, and found him, in the vehicle, on SW McVey. A car chase began and continued at speeds near 70 mph until the suspect crashed on SW Messa and the suspect was apprehended, the sergeant said.

Justin Britton was taken into custody and the cash and firearm were recovered, Sgt. McMurrian said. Britton was transported to and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail and was charged with first-degree theft, first-degree theft of a firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and attempt to elude.
