BEND, Ore. -- Albertsons South has donated $2,000 to Bend's Community Center (BCC) to assist with food purchases during their 8-week kitchen remodel process. The Feed the Hungry program, serving 400 - 500 meals to hungry and homeless every Sunday from 1-5 p.m., is continuing throughout the kitchen remodel process.
Taffy Gleason, director for BCC said, "We are so thankful for Albertsons generosity. The money they donated goes toward items for the salad bar. Each Sunday, they send fresh fruits and vegetables, side dishes and fruit for lunches. This is especially helpful since we don't have a cooler to keep donations."
The donation will go toward the 50/50 Campaign, where BCC hopes to raise $50,000 in only 50 days to complete the remodel and expansion of its 25-year old kitchen. The campaign has nearly reached the half-way point with $25,000.
Jackie Martini, store director of Albertson's South at 61155 S. Highway 97 in Bend said, "The fight against hunger is one of Albertsons top corporate initiatives. As many families are struggling to cope during these tough economic times, it's even more important for us to provide the one resource we know most about - food."
People are also encouraged to donate their bottle and can deposits to the Feed the Hungry Program.
