Gresham Police detective dies in climbing accident

GRESHAM, Ore. – An eight-year veteran of the Gresham Police Department died Sunday along with his sister-in-law when they fell to their death while climbing Horsethief Butte in Columbia Hills State Park in Klickitat County, Washington, police reported.

Detective Tony (T.C.) Silva was assigned as a detective within the East Multnomah County Gang Enforcement Team, and had also served as a SWAT member, field training officer and a self defense instructor, Sgt. Michael LeDuc said.

Emergency personnel were on scene quickly, however their efforts to assist Silva and Laura Dyal-Silva were unsuccessful.

“This is a difficult time for all members of the Gresham Police Department. T.C. Silva touched many of our lives and is best known for is ever positive attitude, willingness to help others and keen intellect. We ask that members of the community join us in prayers for the Silva family,” Sgt. LeDuc wrote in a news release.

Silva is survived by his wife Rebecca, and his sons Riley and Tony Jr., III. His father is Gresham Police Lt. Tony Silva, currently assigned to TriMet.

No funeral arrangement information was readily available.
