BEND, Ore. -- The Shasta County, California Coroner’s office has identified the woman killed in a collision between an SUV and a semi-truck trailer Friday on Interstate 5 south of Lake Boulevard as 52-year old Rosa Arenas of Bend, Oregon.

According to the Record Searchlight, Arenas died when her SUV crashed into the trailer of a semi-truck at a speed estimated at 63 to 64 mph just before 2 p.m., April 10.

She was traveling in the fast lane and didn’t see the truck’s trailer as the semi changed from the slow lane to the fast lane in an effort to let traffic merge from an on-ramp, the paper reported.

Arenas’s SUV reportedly crashed into the trailer, rolled through the center median and came to rest near the northbound lanes of the highway.

The truck driver, a 58-year old Orangevale, California man, stopped on the freeway about 2/10 of a mile from the collision, the Coroner’s office spokesman told the paper.
