CHANDLER, Ariz. -- An 18-year-old man in Chandler, Ariz., was fatally stabbed after being found by his teacher's boyfriend in her home, police allege.

The Chandler Police Department alleged in a probable cause statement that Sixto Balbuena, 20, fatally stabbed Samuel Valdivia after finding him in bed with Balbuena's girlfriend, Tamara Hofmann, The Arizona Republic said Wednesday.

Valdivia was a student at El Dorado High School where Hofman teaches. Hofman also served as Balbuena's teacher when she was employed at Marcos de Niza High School, police said.

Police said last Friday's incident came after Balbuena was granted liberty from the U.S. Navy.

Balbuena allegedly told police he did not mean to kill Valdivia, but accidentally stabbed him too hard while assaulting the man.

The Republic said Balbuena is being held on $100,000 bond pending his trial.
