The Thespian Society at Summit High School will conduct a “Pirate Camp” for young performers this summer as a fundraiser for the group. The acting camp will be open to 50 children, grades kindergarten through fifth. It will be held at Summit High School from June 26 through June 30.
Wee mateys will work with student directors to learn the basic techniques of successful theatre, following a pirate theme. By the end of the five-day camp, each child will leave with their own “Pirate Camp” t-shirt, a hand-made eye patch or parrot, and a passion and respect for the art of theatre, said Anita Hoffman, drama teacher at Summit High and camp coordinator.
Proceeds from the camp will go into the Thespian Society fund, which allows members to see local live theatre productions and will fund a high school scholarship for the 2006-07 school year. The troupe members have been preparing this camp for months and hope to make Pirate Camp a memorable experience, Hoffman said.
