A 78-year old Bend woman was killed Wednesday night when she attempted to turn onto Reed Market Road from Southeast 27th Street and collided head-on into an oncoming pickup, police said.

Investigation and witness statements indicate the victim, identified as Patricia Mae Peacock, was traveling north on 27th street in a Ford Explorer about 8:30 p.m. when she tried to turn west onto Reed Market Road and crashed into a Ford pickup driven by a 16-year old girl, said Bend Police Lt. Gary Mack.

Peacock and her passenger were transported to St. Charles Medical Center–Bend, where Peacock died of her injuries.  Her passenger was admitted to the hospital and was reported in fair condition, the lieutenant said, and the other driver was not hurt.

No citations have been issued in the continuing investigation, and anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Bend Police Department at 541.322.2960.
