The Central Oregon Environmental Center and The Green Spot recently announced the second Green Spotlight Award has been given to Bend’s own Mulch Design.  The award recognizes one local business as a leader in Central Oregon’s growing sustainable economy.

The Green Spotlight Award for 2007 will be given to Mulch Design, owned by Chemynne Perlingieri.  Mulch develops proprietary identities and brands; a broad range of print collateral and packaging; front-end website design, and strong brand-identity management though all design applications.

Since it’s launch in April 2005, The Green Spot has been developing a Green Purchasing Guide, listing local businesses that offer products or services that are environmentally sustainable.  This directory is available online at, and in print at various locations throughout Central Oregon, including the Central Oregon Environmental Center.  The Green Spot encompasses over 300 business listings in a full range of categories.

”Businesses were evaluated according to their sustainable practices, waste reduction, community impact and leadership and innovation in helping Central Oregon reach a greater level of environmental sustainability,” explains Nikki Thompson, project coordinator for The Green Spot.  “There are many local businesses that go far beyond the norm in reducing their environmental impact and we spotlight one each year.”

In addition to recycling everything in the office, Mulch specs anything and everything sustainably-minded to clients for their projects, products, packaging and print design.  Chemynne is behind “Zero Waste Bend”, a proposal to recycle food scraps and containers into compost at local events and festivals.  Mulch Design also attends pertinent workshops and conferences annually, regarding environmental sustainability.

Other nominees for the award included High Desert Naturals, Inc., Environmental Building Supplies, and Santiago’s Mate Company.
