LOCAL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS

Track & Field:

May 26 - Mountain View senior Ashton Eaton won the title in the boys long jump (24’ ¼”) at the Class 4A state high school track and field championships held at Hayward Field in Eugene.

May 27 - Aaron Campbell of Summit High won two state titles in the 100 and 200-meter dash at the Class 4A state track and field championships. Summit’s Alyssa O’Connor (1500-meters) and Suni Kumar (triple jump) also placed first. Summit Girls and Mountain Views boys placed second overall. Summit Boys finished third as a team.

Baseball:

May 26 - Madras lost 5-2 against Marist in the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A state baseball playoffs, and Redmond triumphed over Jesuit 7-5 in Class 4A.

May 29 - The Bend Blue Sox was the winner of the Deschutes Division championship, and the Redmond Retros also won their Cascade Division at the 2006 Chuck Bafaro High Desert Classic Tournament.

Drew Rundle, a Bend High School senior was named the 2005-06 Gatorade Oregon High School Baseball Player of the Year.

May 30 - Redmond lost to West Salem 12-4 in the semi-final round of Class 4A state baseball playoffs.

Golf:

May 29 - Lynn Murphy got a hole-in-one on the 82 yard long 11th hole at Bend Golf & Country Club.

Races:

May 27 - Lisa Magness (1:28:10) and Michael Denis (1:23:12) took home first place in their divisions at the Duel in the Desert Duathlon.
