SHOT Show, Gerber Knives, team up to raise funds for children with life-threatening illnesses

Gerber Legendary Blades donates to “Catch-a-Dream” at Portland’s annual Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor (SHOT) Show
 
(Portland, Oregon) - The annual Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show, commonly known as the SHOT Show, draws thousands each day to see the latest and greatest in outdoor market products.  Gerber Legendary Blades not only experiences a packed floor, but for the third consecutive year Pete Gerber, whose father Joseph founded the company in 1939, was on hand to personally autograph Gerber knives.  Talk about long lines -- show attendees lined up dozens deep for the opportunity to shake the famed knife maker’s hand and donate money for the signed knife.

This year was no different, and the $5 donation made for each autographed knife raised over $6,100 for the Catch-A-Dream program.  Founded in 2000 to memorialize outdoor writer Bruce Brady, Catch-A-Dream grants once-in-a-lifetime outdoor experiences to children 18-years or younger with life-threatening illnesses. Unlike other similar programs, Catch-A-Dream children can choose hunting as their outdoor experience.
 
On each trip, the children and their accompanying family members are surrounded by outdoors-minded people who understand that these children are often “...sick and tired of being sick and tired!”  A designated Catch-A-Dream host accompanies each family and, together with outfitters and local volunteers, facilitates their dream experience, love and nurture them through the strong personal relationships that inevitably are forged in the lodge, on the stream, or in the woods.
