A Bend man was arrested Monday morning in the parking lot of a motel for an outstanding warrant on drug offenses, but additional charges in connection with the November robbery of an adult video store were added when evidence related to the crime was allegedly found in the suspect’s vehicle, Bend Police reported.

Patrol officers approached Kurt Karl Booker, 53, about 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Westward Ho motel at 904 SE Third Street to serve an arrest warrant on an earlier charge of possession of controlled substances, Sgt. Paul Kansky said.  Detectives also had probable cause for his arrest for identity theft, he added.

Evidence of the November 22 robbery of the adult book, video and novelty store was allegedly found in Booker’s vehicle, prompting the additional charges.  In the November incident, the robber entered Pleasure World at 1843 NE Third Street shortly after midnight, demanded cash, and indicated to an employee identified as Johnny Burroughs that he was armed with a weapon.   The employee complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money.  Police searched the area for the robber who was caught on video surveillance, but were unable to locate him.

Booker was lodged at the Deschutes County Jail Monday on charges of first-degree robbery, manacing, second-degree theft, identity theft, second-degree forgery.  He is also being held on the warrant for second-degree possession of a controlled substance.

According to an Oregon State Police news release, in February of 2006 Booker was accused of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and possession of cocaine and oxycontin when he allegedly drove off a freeway off-ramp, crashed through two fences, and smashed into two cars at the Landmark Ford auto dealership in Tigard.
