The Board of Directors of the Bend Visitors and Convention Bureau announced the resignation of its Executive Director Michael Glover effective February 1.  The search for a new Executive Director will begin immediately.

The Visitors and Convention Bureau (VCB) is Bend’s premier tourism promotion agency.  It is funded by transient room tax funds from the City of Bend, and its mission is to promote tourism in Bend.

“The VCB is dedicated to promoting all aspects of Bend, including the arts, shopping, community festivals, major community events such as Bendfilm and the Cascade Festival of Music, as well as the resort, golf and ski industries,” said Gary Oliver, President of the VCB Board.  “The VCB has worked extremely hard over the past few years to refine our vision and improve our working relationships with the City, local businesses, and our other marketing partners.  We look forward to recruiting someone to lead the agency who will build on its past success and take us to an even higher level of performance.”

The VCB has increased tourism levels significantly in the past four years, and has increased the level of collaboration with local agency partners.  With the increase in tourism, there is a commensurate increase in transient room tax funds that benefit the City of Bend.  The City is required by law to spend a portion of those funds to continue to promote tourism in Bend.

“With the excellent success and reputation of the agency, the wonderful collaborative spirit of this community, and the beauty of Bend, we are quite confident that we will have applicants of the highest caliber,” said Oliver.  Applicants interested in submitting applications should obtain an application and more information on the VCB web site.
