Approximately 100 people attended Juniper Ridge’s first open house Wednesday evening, held February 7 at the Deschutes County Services Building.
Several speakers representing the design and engineering aspects of the process presented the initial framework of how the design process would work and addressed the guiding principles they would use throughout the process.
The Juniper Ridge Team includes the City of Bend; the master developer, Juniper Ridge Partners; the lead architect / planner, Cooper, Robertson & Partners; and the lead engineer, Arup. Drawings, maps, and other planning materials were on display to help the public start to visualize what the 1,500 acre area could become. Those presenting at the meeting included Cooper, Robertson partner, Paul Milana, A.I.A.; Paul Thomas, lead engineer from Arup; and Tom Atkins, President of J.T. Atkins & Company.
The Juniper Ridge team is moving forward with developing the vision for Juniper Ridge. It will be designed to attract diversified, family-wage employment, and a university campus with research-and-development capabilities. Other facilities planned for Juniper Ridge include the Central Oregon Performing Arts Center, and a mixture of local shops and residential development.
This Juniper Ridge Open House was the first of three opportunities for the community to review emerging plans and provide input. The next two open houses are scheduled for April 4th and May 2nd. A video of the meeting and the PowerPoint presentation is scheduled to be posted on the City’s web page in the upcoming week.
