La Pine man arrested on child sex charges

Oregon State Police arrested a La Pine man Tuesday afternoon on a Lake County felony sexual assault warrant related to alleged crimes against children, troopers reported.

Troopers were in the La Pine area on Tuesday about 3:30 p.m., on the lookout for Stephen Edward Cox, 55.  He was spotted driving a Dodge pickup on Highway 97, stopped, and arrested.

The felony warrant from Lake County was issued following an investigation by the OSP Criminal Investigations Division, assisted by the Lakeview office of the Department of Human Services.

Cox is alleged to have assaulted two juveniles who were known to him, a male and a female, troopers reported.  He is currently lodged in the Deschutes County Jail in lieu of $1-million bail, and is charged with five counts of first-degree sexual abuse, five counts of first-degree rape, and two counts of unlawful sexual penetration.
