On Thursday Bend Memorial Clinic laid off about 20 workers in an effort to control costs and resource management, officials said.
Bend Memorial Clinic has chosen to undergo an internal review of clinic operations and cost management to improve the overall operations of the clinic and to reduce the cost of providing high quality healthcare for the community.
“We are a learning organization and we want to design the best processes to better serve the health care needs of the Central Oregon community”, said Marvin Lein, Chief Executive Officer of the clinic. “This initiative will position us for the future to continue to provide the highest quality healthcare in a more cost effective manner,” stated Randal Avolio, Chief Operating Officer.
The initiative will be adopted in the clinic as a standard to ensure responsible management of all its operations and functions.
Bend Memorial Clinic includes over 85 providers representing 16 branches of medicine and 30 clinical services specialties. It is the largest multi-specialty group east of the Cascades and functions as a comprehensive referral center for physicians and communities throughout the state.
