A La Pine man is in jail today following his drunken drive to – and into -- his former girlfriend’s home early this morning, authorites reported.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies said James Kevin Menning, 41, drove to the home of Donda Lee Thompson at 15669 Bluebird Lane in La Pine shortly after 1 a.m. February 27 for a visit.

But Menning, allegedly intoxicated, didn’t stop in the driveway.  He drove his orange 1983 Toyota pickup onto her porch and partially into the living room, Sgt. Ronny Dozier and Deputy Deke DeMars said.

When deputies arrived, they found the inebriated Menning trying to get out of his pickup.

Thompson, 34, and her two children – a 14-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter – were sleeping when the vehicle came crashing through their home, the deputies said.  No injuries were reported.

Menning was taken into custody and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail.  He is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief, and three counts of recklessly endangering another.

The investigation is continuing.
