This week the St. Charles Foundation announced the celebration of the successful conclusion of the largest fund-raising effort of its kind in the history of Central Oregon.
The $10-million Expanding the Vision capital campaign concluded January 1, 2007 with a final tally that surpassed the original goal. During the three-year period, the Foundation raised $10,169,069 to support programs and services at St. Charles Redmond and St. Charles Bend.
“So many local businesses and individuals contributed to the success of this campaign through their donations and volunteer service,” explained Dwight Heaney, Executive Director & Vice President of Philanthropy for Cascade Healthcare Community. “We had more than 7,000 community members contribute to the campaign, and many of them told us they were donating in appreciation of the care they received at one of our hospitals.”
At St. Charles Redmond, funds from the campaign helped build the new JELD-WEN Tower – including new private patient rooms with ample space for visitors, new state-of-the-art surgical suites, environmental enhancements such as a new entryway and lobby, and retail and conference room spaces. In the future, campaign funds will be used to support expansion of the Emergency Department in Redmond and additional patient rooms on the second floor of the JELD-WEN Tower.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the thousands of donors and community volunteers who stepped up to the plate and showed us just how much they value quality healthcare in our region,” Heaney added. “We’re especially grateful to our volunteer campaign chairs, Doug & Amy Downer, and to our honorary chairs, Jerry & Jinny Andres.”
One of the most noteworthy moments of the fund-raising effort came when JELD-WEN kicked off the public phase of the campaign with a $1 million donation.
“In addition to the very generous gift from JELD-WEN, we’re also very pleased with the level of support we had from our own caregivers and physicians,” added Jim Diegel, FACHE, President and CEO of Cascade Healthcare Community. “They contributed over $1 million of their own hard-earned money to help support our organization. That speaks volumes about how truly committed our own people are to our mission of service.”
